Bringing a Touch of Home to a Destination Wedding

Time has flown by these last two years through all the planning, parties, and announcing of our plans to spend forever together & I can finally say my husband and I have tied the knot! After much consideration and countless appointments at venues, the answer was apparent to us… a destination wedding was the perfect fit! Many people are on the fence about destination weddings due to the inference that they won’t be able to incorporate things that mean a lot to them, for instance, music and flowers… but I can guarantee you that it is very possible to get what you want, and more, with a destination wedding.

Losing someone so important to you before they can witness the many milestones you still have to go through in life is tough for anyone. For me, as both a little girl dreaming of her wedding and an adult planning her wedding, all I wanted was for my father to walk me down the aisle and give me away to the love of my life. To not have been able to have that honor and special moment with my father made me realize I had to do something to make it feel right, even if only for sentimental reasons.

We had our ceremony on the beach facing the crystal blue ocean, not a cloud in the sky, and the crisp cool air against everyone’s face. Our “I Do’s” were made under an arch that was decorated with beautiful colored flowers. Something that meant a lot to me was to include certain kinds of flowers for my bouquet- I used sunflowers and roses- mine and my father’s favorite flowers that we used to grow in our garden together. This is something that meant a lot to me to incorporate because I wanted to feel as if my father was spending this magical day with me, hand-in-hand, as I walked down the aisle.

When it came time for the reception we had it on the pool terrace, and it was a magical night of non-stop dancing. A very important aspect for my husband and I was music, as we wanted to be able to have modern music along with a few oldies but goodies. They were able to meet our musical needs with a DJ and we also wanted some fun Mexican music, so we had a mariachi band perform and they really brought the party to the next level!

As you could see bringing a touch of home is very simple to do with a destination wedding! So get excited and get planning!
